Yellow-Sticker Commercial Vehicle Inspections in Guelph
If your truck, trailer or van is over 4,500 kg registered gross weight, Ontario wants an annual inspection sticker on it. We do them, and we do fleets.
Ontario requires an annual safety inspection for most commercial vehicles with a registered gross weight over 4,500 kg — that catches a lot of everyday working equipment in Guelph: three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickups pulling a dump or equipment trailer, cube vans, landscaper and snow-removal trucks, and tow trucks regardless of weight. Passenger vehicles with ten or more seats, school-purpose vehicles and accessible vehicles are on a semi-annual (six-month) cycle. The inspection is done under the province's DriveON program and the pass is recorded electronically with the familiar yellow sticker on the vehicle.
What gets inspected
The commercial checklist is more demanding than a passenger safety: brake systems including air or hydraulic components as applicable, steering, suspension, frame and body, tires and wheels, coupling devices and trailer hitches, lighting, exhaust, fuel system, cargo securement points, and more. Trailers are inspected as their own units.

Does my pickup need a yellow sticker?
If the registered gross weight is over 4,500 kg — common for a heavy-duty pickup, and for pickup-plus-trailer combinations — yes. Check the RGW on your permit; if you're not sure, call us with the plate and we'll tell you.
Does the trailer need its own inspection?
Yes, if the trailer itself is over 4,500 kg gross weight it's inspected as its own unit with its own sticker.
How long does a commercial inspection take?
Plan on 1.5–2.5 hours for a truck; trailers are quicker. Fleets are scheduled in blocks.
What if it fails?
You get an itemized list. Repair here or elsewhere, then re-inspect. Fleet accounts usually authorize us to just fix and re-inspect in the same visit.
Can you inspect at my yard?
No — inspections are done at the shop under the licence. Fleet vehicles can be dropped in rotation so you're never down more than one at a time.
